HIGH UV VIETNAM

High UV Index in Vietnam and its health implications

In the recent years, high UV index in Vietnam has been alarming to population and visitors. Back in 2016, it was reported that the southern region including Ho Chi Minh City has recorded UV index of 10-12 (high level) in the month of May.

Based on the data shown by Weather Online, a UK based meteorological service provider, it was indicated high reading of 10 – 12 UV index has also been detected in 2019 and 2020 especially during the major heat waves around May and June 2020.

Below is the recent UV index reading from Weather Online showing an average 10 – 11 reading in the month of March 2021 in Ho Chi Minh City;

According to WHO, the best-known acute effect of excessive UV exposure is erythema, the skin reddening termed sunburn. Whereas, chronic exposure to UV radiation also causes a number of degenerative changes in the cells, fibrous tissue and blood vessels of the skin. These include freckles, nevi and lentigines, which are pigmented areas of the skin, and diffuse brown pigmentation. On top of that, UV radiation accelerates skin aging, and the gradual loss of the skin’s elasticity results in wrinkles and dry, coarse skin.

In Monteloeder, we have a branded ingredient called Nutroxsun which is an oral sun care product with the following benefits;

  1. Helps to reduce skin oxidation, inflammation and improve both UVB and UVA sun radiation tolerance.
  2. May provide antiaging benefits, reduces wrinkle depth and improves elasticity, by protecting cutaneous structure components.
