Sleep problems during lockdown

One of the most important problems during the lockdown due to the Covid-19 is the problem to fall asleep. Many people complain that during confinement they sleep worse due to anxiety, altered schedules, financial problems, the stress of having children at home all day… According to researchers from Johns Hopkins Medicine “sleep disruption is insufficient sleep to support adequate alertness, performance, and health, either because of reduced total sleep time or fragmentation of sleep. Sleep disruptions can increase cortisol levels, which may amplify the effects of stress on the body. Good sleep helps to promote mental and physical wellbeing and helps maintain an effective immune system”.

Currently that we are at home for so long, more than ever, we are all very connected to the internet and social media. However, it is recommended that, at least an hour before going to sleep, start disconnecting from work, not seeing the mobile phone or computer screens and carrying out tasks that relax such as listening to soft music, reading, doing meditation… Besides it is important to stick to normal hours even if you don’t have to go to work. Another important thing is to do physical exercise. If you do some physical exercise you will be more tired, you will reduce stress, you will spend less time sitting and that will make you sleep better. It also helps to reduce anxiety by not watching Covid-19 related news all day because they generally place more emphasis on the more negative aspects of the pandemic.

Monteloeder has developed moveplx®, a natural ingredient with Lemon verbena extract, that helps to improve the quality of the sleep and reduces the anxiety, as shown in a double-blind placebo clinical trial. Lemon verbena, taken as a tea, has been traditionally used to relax and help sleep. The product is already commercially available in several countries.
