Digital solutions to fight against obesity

Obesity is defined as an accumulation of excessive or abnormal fat that can affect health. To determine if an adult suffers from obesity, the body mass index (BMI) is used, which is calculated from weight and height (kg / m2). An adult is considered to be overweight when their BMI is equal to or greater than 25 kg / m2 and obesity when it is equal to or greater than 30 kg / m2. In children, however, reference tables are used according to age and sex to identify excess weight.

Last Friday (26/07/2019) the last months’ alert on turmeric supplements, suspected of being responsible for about twenty cases of cholestatic hepatitis in Italy, has come to an end, [1].

The team of experts appointed by the Ministry of Health who conducted the investigations and analyses did not identify a direct correlation with a specific extract or dosage of curcumin, and excluded the presence of contaminants or voluntarily added substances; the literature data and the information provided by the other Member States, where similar reports had emerged, were also evaluated.
