The road to preventive health through the union of health ingredients and Digital Health

Monteloeder’s vision of the future in relation to the nutraceuticals and health ingredients sector inevitably passes through the paradigm shift from a solution based on products supported by clinical studies to the incorporation into the preventive health solution the associated services part of Digital Health.

El Digital Health could be defined as the use of connected mobile devices – including, but not limited to, mobile phones, tablets, consumer wearables, conected biosensors, and in-home virtual assistants – to improve health.

The value of Digital Health is related to its ability to obtain and communicate information from the Internet and the Internet, provide constant monitoring of metrics related to health and show health-related information in a clearer way.

The latest studies of the IQVIA Institute for Human Data Science confirm that the appropriate strategy to introduce the new paradigm is to give a concrete value to the client either through solutions that manage a specific health deficiency or the Customer Journey management associated with a product that manages a specific health deficiency. In this sense, the applications associated with Wellness Management, for which Digital Health began, are losing weight with respect to solutions that focus on Health Condition Management.

Health apps targeting wellness management have dropped as a proportion of total health apps from 73% to 60% with a corresponding increase of 48% increase in the share of apps focussed of heath conditions management.

Health conditions app has grown from 27% of the total health app to 40% in just 2 years with a notably increase in those focussing on specific diseases having grown from 10% to 16% of all apps, and those focussed on treatment adherence having grown from 7% to 11%.

For apps that provide disease specific support and management, the top six áreas they focus on are all the chronic conditions: mental health conditions, diabetes, health and circulatory conditions, nervous system, musculoskeletal and digestive health conditions.

This confirms Monteloeder’s approach to Digital Health that focuss in providing value related to the effects on specific products that target specific health conditions.

The current state-of-the-art of the tools to measure health limits the scope that can be tackle nowadays although this is improving fast. According to the report “The Growing Value of Digital Health” by the IQVIA Institute among the top downloaded health app over 55% (22/34) of this apps make use of sensor data.

Clearly, this is an indication that preventive digital health is a journey that starts HERE and NOW.
